Abel Tasman Hike
One of New Zealand’s nine ‘Great Walks’, the Abel Tasman Coast Track takes in the best of the Abel Tasman National Park – golden sand beaches, coastal bush of native beech and kanuka, estuaries, a tidal crossing, towering granite cliffs, and wildlife like native birds and fur seals. The climate in the region is mild and sunny and there will be plenty of opportunities for swimming along the way.
This 60km intermediate-level track takes 3 to 5 days to complete, but there are a variety of options to combine transport by water taxi or kayak with walking a section of the track. Highlights include the 47m suspension bridge at Falls River and a side trip to Cleopatra’s Pool, a natural rock pool with a moss-lined waterslide!
The Abel Tasman Coast Track has four basic tramping huts and 18 campsites. Advance bookings to walk the track are essential all year round.
